
A US study conducted in January 2020 found that 91.5% of men and 60.2% of women reported having consumed pornography in the past month. Also in the US alone, the porn industry generated $1.15 billion in 2023. A recent investigative series by Reuters claims to expose the popular online platform, Only Fans (based in London), for exploitative porn.
What effects does porn use have on the mind? How does porn affect relationships – how we view ourselves and each other? What are its social implications on perceptions of sex, intimacy, and marriage? Is there such a thing as ethical porn? Is the alarming rise in youth sex crimes related to the widespread availability of internet porn?
This February, we will be hearing from Jeffrey Pang, a counsellor with Indigo & Co, on the consequences of pornography, including on how porn use affects marriages and families. Indigo & Co were recently behind a conference on sex and pornography addiction that saw leading experts and stakeholders weigh in on the nature of the problem and possible solutions.
Jakin Tan, a university student, will also be sharing his honest thoughts about pornography and how it affects youths and relationships.
